Exercises: Material & Texture Creation
The first assignment of each class has students recreating materials from reference images using shader properties alone (no texturing).
This project familiarizes students with the basics of operating in the rendering software and accurately copying a real world surface simply by changing how the object interacts with light.

For the second assignment, students have to recreate a set of materials from callout sheets, but this time using texturing techniques to modulate the shader properties to get a more accurate surface match.
With this project, students are further refining their observation skills while also learning texture creation using software like Substance Painter, and how software communicate between each other.
